Yonhap President hails cooperation with VNA

He said he placeda high value on information provided by VNA, expressing his wish todevelop the bilateral relations to become a symbol of cooperation amongnews agencies in Asia while talking with General Director of VNA TranMai Huong in Hanoi on Dec. 9.

VNA General Director Huongspoke highly of the current visit by the Yonhap delegation, stressingthe need to exchange visits of high-level delegations, reporters andinformation between the two sides.

He also emphasised the need to increase mutual assistance between the two news agencies’ bureaux in their respective countries.

“VNA is willing to support the implementation of language training programmes for Yonhap,” the VNA General Director said.

Heintroduced the functions and tasks of VNA in its capacity as a nationalnews agency, saying that to ensure information provision to foreignnews agencies, VNA is accelerating multimedia, including mobile news anda TV channel, along with existing types of media and improving thequality of its publications.

In addition, VNA also focuses on personnel training and human resource development as well as management mechanism reform.

VNAalways highly values the cooperation with Yonhap, General DirectorHuong said, seeking to promote relations between the two news agenciesin the circumstance of good friendship and cooperation between Vietnamand the RoK.

General Director Huong agreed with President ParkJung-chan on the importance of regular cooperation and during specificevents, VNA will create favourable conditions for Yonhap reporters tocover news in Vietnam .

In return, President Park Jung-chansaid Yonhap will work to bring the language training programmes forVietnamese and RoK reporters into reality, and affirmed readiness toshare experience in applying information technology with VNA.

Healso expressed his interest in VNA’s initial efforts to launch a TVchannel and said that Yonhap will soon have a TV channel, meeting theRoK people’s demand as well as giving a wider voice to itscorrespondents.

Also at the talks, the two sides agreed tofurther increase quality and effectiveness in information exchange,meeting the requirements of rapid, accurate and various news onpolitics, economics and culture and serving as a bridge to strengthenmutual understanding between the two countries’ people.
