The vibrant Five Moc Villages Festival – a unique cultural heritage – has returned, bringing together the communal temples of Giap Nhat, Quan Nhan, and Cu Chinh in a solemn procession to Phung Khoang Village. Behind this year’s success were the passionate efforts of young volunteers quietly contributing to preserving and promoting traditional values.
Held on March 11 (the 12th day of the second lunar month), the Five Moc Villages Festival is a distinctive intangible heritage of Hanoi. This year, Phung Khoang Village hosted the event.
From early morning, elders in traditional attire and youth in formal clothing gathered at local temples, preparing for the procession.
The parade began at Quan Nhan Temple, moving along the ward’s main streets and drawing reverence from local residents.

“I was excited to join a festival that honors our ancestors for building the country and our homeland. It’s my first time here—my friend invited me and shared the festival’s history. I was touched and woke up at 4 a.m. to attend.”

Many young people took on key roles—carrying flags, parasols, and even lifting the palanquin. Some signed up months in advance and trained to learn the traditional rituals.
Their volunteer spirit shows how youth are actively involved in preserving cultural heritage. By participating, they not only experience tradition firsthand but also help keep it alive. The festival becomes a meaningful bridge between generations, ensuring cultural values continue to thrive.
