26th ASEAN Summit continues Community building

The Vietnamese delegation’sparticipation in the 26th Summit is expected to boost ASEANconnectivity, strengthen solidarity and unity, and elevate the role ofthe bloc in ensuring peace, security, cooperation and development in theregion.

The opening ceremony, plenary session andbilateral meetings will take place in Kuala Lumpur, while the retreatand the closing ceremony will be held in Langkawi.

During the Summit, ASEAN leaders will focus on discussing strategies andmeasures towards establishing the ASEAN Community in 2015 and buildingthe ASEAN Community’s Post-2015 Vision.

Themed “OurPeople, Our Community, Our Vision”, the summit will also discuss ways tostrengthen ASEAN institutions, bring ASEAN people closer, intensifycooperation between small- and medium-sized enterprises, expandintra-bloc trade and investment, and boost regional peace and security.

Along with the regular Presidency Declaration, the2015 Summit plans to adopt the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on aPeople-Centred ASEAN, the Langkawi Declaration on the Global Movement ofModerates, and the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Institutionalising theResilience of ASEAN and its Communities and Peoples to Disasters andClimate Change.

Founded in 1967, the ASEAN, or theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations, currently comprises Malaysia,Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia,Indonesia and Vietnam.-VNA
