4.5 mln water treatment pills donated to flood victims

The Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) on December 26 received 4.5 million water purification tablets worth 800 million VND (37,600 USD) to support flood affected people.

The Aquatabs pills, donated byZuellig Pharma Vietnam Co., Ltd, will be used to purify 90 millionlitres of unsafe water for flood victims.

Zuellig PharmaVietnam Sales Manager Nguyen Thi Hai Binh said her company has conductedmany humanitarian activities to aid local people since 2001, andprovided 7 million water treatment pills to help the community preventcommunicable diseases between 2008 and 2010.

According toVRC Deputy Chairman and General Secretary Doan Van Thai, areas in lackof potable water which were hit by Wutip and Nari storms will beprioritized.

Aquatabs are effervescent tablets whichkill micro-organisms in water to prevent cholera, typhoid and otherwater-borne diseases.-VNA
