Hanoi (VNA) – The 5G spectrum harmonisationin ASEAN member countries was the main focus of a workshop held virtually bythe Authority of Radio Frequency Management (ARFM) under the Ministry of Informationand Communications on November 26.

5G services would speed up the development of digitalinfrastructure and meet requirements of digital transformation, said Nguyen DucTrung, head of the ARFM, adding that Vietnam and other ASEAN member countrieshave piloted the services.

ASEAN countries are working to provide the spectrum for5G services. However, the entire region is facing challenges to frequencyplanning for 5G.

Currently, Vietnam and a number of ASEAN countrieshave conducted trials on the sharing of the 3.5 GHz band for both satellite andmobile services, and prepared another band for 5G, according to the official.

The spectrum harmonisation for 5G and other servicesis an urgent task to minimise interference between countries and make the bestuse of the spectrum, he added.

Participating experts from ASEAN countries also informedresults of the trials and future plans for 5G./.
