Activities launched to respond to world water, meteorological days

The Ministry of National Resources and Environment has issued a document guiding localities to organise activities in response to the World Water Day (March 22) and the World Meteorological Day (March 23).

Hanoi (VNA)💙 -The Ministry of National Resources and Environmenthas issued a document guiding localities to organise activities in response tothe World Water Day (March 22) and the World Meteorological Day (March 23).

This year’s World Water Day highlights the theme“Waste Water”, aiming to raise public awareness of reducing water pollution andusing fresh water resources economically and sustainably. 

Meanwhile, themed “Understanding Clouds”, theWorld Meteorological Day 2017 stresses the importance of clouds for climate andwater while helping communities gain deeper insight into the significance ofhydrometeorology in mitigating natural disasters and other socio-economicactivities.

To response to those events, the ministry hasasked the People’s Committees of cities and provinces to direct local NaturalResources and Environment departments to coordinate with relevant units in makingplans and organising meetings and other activities such as workshops,exhibitions and parades, among others.

The Department of Water Resources Management isdirected to provide information and documents as well as cooperate withlocalities in carrying out the above activities.

𓄧 Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

🏅 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

♕ Hundreds of trees planted in Cuc Phuong National Park as part of Forestival

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
