Activities mark Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da Victory

Thousands of people attended the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da festival in Hanoi on February 14.
Thousands of local people and visitors attended a festival to mark the224th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da Victory in Dong Da Park,Hanoi on February 14.

The festival opened with an incense andoffering ceremony in memory of King Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue and the TaySon soldiers.

A series of cultural, artistic and sportingactivities, and martial art performances took place during the day, thefifth day of the first lunar month.

The day before, peoplecentral Binh Dinh province, the homeland of King Quang Trung, gatheredat Quang Trung museum and offered incense to commemorate his merits.

In the early spring of 1789, Nguyen Hue, who was later proclaimedEmperor Quang Trung, led his guerrillas from Hue imperial palace toHanoi, which was then occupied by the Chinese Qing army.

Helaunched a surprise attack and defeated more than 20,000 Qing soldiersduring a battle on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year.

Thefestival at Quang Trung museum in his hometown re-enacts Nguyen Hue’sattack on the enemy to protect the national sovereignty.

Similar events were also held in the central provinces of Nghe An and Thua Thien-Hue to remember the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da Victory.- VNA
