Activities of Tay Nguyen Gong Culture Festival 2018 started

Gia Lai (VNA) –The organizing board of the Tay Nguyen Gong Culture Festival 2018 started theactivities within the framework of the festival in the Central Highlandsprovince of Gia Lai on December 1.

Those activities include thetraditional rituals, folk wood sculpture, brocade weaving, epic recitals, photoand document exhibitions, and conferences on the preservation and promotion ofgong culture legacy of ethnic races in the region, among others.

Earlier, PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged the administrations and people of regional localitiesto work harder to preserve and promote the value of their gong culture as wellas other traditional practices and religious rituals.

Addressingthe opening of the festival in Pleiku city of Gia Lai province on November 30,the PM said that the gong culture is a treasure in the cultural heritage of theVietnamese people and humankind as a whole.

The PMhighlighted the development vision for Tay Nguyen to become a hub of organicagriculture with biodiversity and rich culture tradition.

TayNguyen must become a symbol of Vietnam’s tourism with its mysterious charm inthe 21st century, he stressed.

Thefestival draws nearly 1,200 artisans from five regional provinces - Kon Tum,Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lam Dong, and Gia Lai.

Thetwo-day event aims to honour the unique value of Tay Nguyen gong cultural spaceas well as the diversity of traditional cultures of ethnic minorities in TayNguyen.

Visitorsto the event will have chance to enjoy street coffee festival and signaturedishes of Tay Nguyen.

TheCultural Space of Gong of Tay Nguyen was recognised by the UNESCO as amasterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of the humanity in 2005. It isclosely linked to the daily life of local people. Their belief systems form amystical world where the gongs produce a privileged language between men,divinities and the supernatural world.

Currently,Tay Nguyen has more than 10,000 sets of gongs, over half of which are kept inGia Lai province.-VNA
