AFF U22 Youth Champions: Vietnam win 3 points in match against Philippines

Vietnam’s U22 football team defeated the Philippines 2-1 in their Group A match of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U22 Youth Championship, which kicked off in Cambodia on February 17.

Phnom Penh (VNA) - Vietnam’s U22football team defeated the Philippines 2-1 in their Group A match of the ASEAN FootballFederation (AFF) U22 Youth Championship, which kicked off in Cambodia onFebruary 17.

The result, contributed by goals of Danh Trungand Minh Binh at the 74th and 78th minutes, saw Vietnam temporarily ranks firstin the group with three points.

Vietnam announced the 23-member squad for the tournament on February 14evening. Hong Linh Ha Tinh football club contributes most players with six,followed by Hoang Anh Gia Lai club with five.

The teams are divided into two groups and are playing in the round-robinformat. Two best teams of each group will advance to the semi-finals. All thematches take place at the Phnom Penh National Olympic Stadium.

Vietnam will continue to face Timor Leste on February 19 and Thailand two dayslater. 

Group B includes Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Cambodia.

Speaking to reporters, Vietnamese head coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan saidhis team would reach the final.

Vietnam take silver in AFF U19 Final

Despite strong home support and high expectations, Vietnam were unable to overcome the defending champions, who secured their third consecutive win over Vietnam in a regional final, following previous victories in 2014 and 2023.
