Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.
- State President To Lam and General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith agreed on orientations and measures to bolster cooperation between Vietnam and Laos across all fields, in their talks held in Vientiane on July 11 during the former’s ongoing state visit.

Sharing the delight at the growing great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries over the years, the two leaders agreed to continue to maintain high-level exchanges and meetings, promoting important bilateral cooperation mechanisms, thus maintaining and fostering close political relations and highest trust. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 11 requested relevant ministries and agencies to consult experts and scientists, and learn from international experiences to quickly complete the building of the North-South high-speed railway project.

Chairing a meeting between standing Government members and leaders of ministries and sectors to discuss the investment policy for the project, PM Chinh noted that Vietnam is recognised for its significant potential in logistics development; however, logistics costs remain higher than the global average due to an underdeveloped transportation system. Therefore, the development of transportation infrastructure, including the North-South high-speed railway, will reduce logistics costs, lower prices, and enhance the competitiveness of goods. - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man applauded the State Audit of Vietnam (SAV) for its efforts and contributions to national development over the last three decades, at a ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the agency held in Hanoi on July 11.

- The Vietnam People’s Navy and the Philippine Navy held the 7th friendship exchange on Song Tu Tay Island of Vietnam on July 10.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Col. Ngo Dinh Xuyen, Deputy Commander of Naval Region 4, and the Philippine side by Col. Enstein Calaoa, Deputy Commander for Marine Operations of the Philippines’ Naval Forces West. Read full story

- With positive results seen in the first half of this year, foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow in 2024 is hoped to hit 40 billion USD in the whole year, contributing to boosting the country’s growth, according to experts.

FDI was an important factor pushing Vietnam’s GDP growth rate in the first half of 2024 to 6.2%, laying the foundation for the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) to adjust the country’s growth target for this year to 7%. Read full story

- The import - export turnover between Vietnam and China is predicted to approximate and even exceed 200 billion USD in 2024, driven by strong trade improvement in the first half of the year.
