Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has expressed his belief that Vietnam and India will soon raise their bilateral trade to 20 billion USD, and even more than 30 billion USD by 2030, doubling the figure last year.

At a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York on September 23 (local time) as part of his trip to the US for the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79), Lam thanked the Indian Government for its relief aid of 35 tonnes of goods worth 1 million USD in support of localities stricken by Typhoon Yagi. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 24 asked the southern province of Dong Nai to maximise resources in order to promote its traditional growth engines, and create breakthroughs for new driving forces.

Speaking at a conference announcing the provincial master plan for 2021-2030 with a vision towards 2050 and promoting trade in Dong Nai, the government leader said the locality needs to enhance investment in human resources, and step up regional, national, and international connectivity. - The Ministry of National Defence held a ceremony in Hanoi on September 24 to see off Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 and Engineering Unit Rotation 3 to carry out United Nations peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and the Abyei area.

Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, announced that the field hospital consists of 63 members, all of whom have been thoroughly trained in political, military, logistical, technical, and medical expertise, as well as peacekeeping knowledge, meeting all UN criteria and mission requirements. The engineer unit, meanwhile, comprises 184 members, including 18 female soldiers. Read full story

– Vietnamese Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang met with United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix in New York on September 23 (local time), within the framework of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s ongoing trip to the US for the UN General Assembly's 79th session and Summit of the Future.

Giang, who is also Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission, highly valued the UN's pivotal role in building the international law system, maintaining peace, preventing conflicts and addressing global challenges, affirming that as a UN member, Vietnam always follows the UN Charter, its resolutions and action programmes. – Major General Huynh Dac Huong, head of the national liaison board for former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts helping Laos is leading a delegation on a visit to Laos from September 22-26, at an invitation of the country’s Ministry of National Defence.

On September 23, they were received by General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Chansamone Chanyalath, and head of the LPRP Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Thongsavanh Phomvihane. – A forum on seizing opportunities from the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and changes in the logistics industry to support Vietnam’s exports to the European Union (EU) market, was held by the European-American Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) in Ho Chi Minh City on September 23.

According to Vice General Director of the Department Nguyen Thao Hien stated that 2024 marks the 4th year since EVFTA came into effect. In recent years, the agreement has served as a lever to help Vietnam and the EU maintain growth momentum in bilateral trade cooperation, despite the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as geopolitical conflicts. – A Vietnamese “Ao dai” (traditional long dress) heritage club has recently made its debut in Prague, aiming to preserving and promoting the costume in the the Czech Republic.

At the event, participants were impressed by an Ao Dai show presented by club members. Notably, the dresses special designed for the club, which is the combination between Vietnam’s flag and that of the Czech Republic, symbolise a connection with their homeland among those living in the European country. ⛎ PM urges relentless efforts against smuggling, trade fraud
