All preparations for the first APEC Senior Officials Meeting have been completed after the SCE, the FoTC on Connectivity and the Policy Support Unit concluded their final meetings on March 1.

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – All necessary preparations for the first APEC Senior OfficialsMeeting (SOM1) have been completed after the SOM Steering Comm♉ittee on ECOTECH (SCE), the SOM Friends of theChair (FoTC) on Connectivity and the Policy Support Unit (PSU) concluded theirfinal meetings on March 1.
As the firstevent with the attendance of APEC senior officials, the FoTC meeting updatedthe progress of implementing initiatives to deploy the APEC ConnectivityBlueprint. The delegates also discussed the implementation of the long-termplan on infrastructure investment and development as well as the APEC ServicesCompetitiveness Roadmap. In hisopening speech, Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister, APEC 2017 ChairBui Thanh Son stressed that enhancing connectivity will help create newdynamism for economic growth, promote inclusive development, strengthenregional economic links and bring APEC economies closer. Today, SCE heard a report onthe APEC work plan presented by Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat AlanBollard. On this basis, the committee re-examined and made recommendations tothe work plans in 2017 of its subordinate working groups. At its meeting, PSUre-examined the unit’s operations in the past year and underway projects. In2016, PSU conducted 18 publications and reports. A number of researchesimplemented by PSU focus on structural reform, regional economic trend,promoting digital trade to serve inclusive growth and industry support policy. Also on March 1, ExecutiveDirector of the APEC Secretariat Alan Bollard held a meeting with the media toshare the views on the context for SOM1 and discuss the outlook for policy collaboration betweenVietnam and other APEC economies. Vietnam’s delegationcontinued making contributions to APEC activities by chairing the FoTC and PSUMeetings.
On March 2, the most importantevent - SOM1 – will begin its two-day gathering.-VNA
Working groups and subcommittees convened nine meetings on February 21 as part of the 4th working day of the first APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM-1) and related meetings in Nha Trang city, the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.
The first APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM 1) went on in Nha Trang city on February 22 with activities seven committees, working groups and forums of APEC.
A series of meetings took place in Nha Trang city in the central province of Khanh Hoa on February 25 within the framework of the first APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM 1).
The SOM Steering Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation (SCE) – Committee of the Whole (COW) convened its meeting in Nha Trang city, south central province of Khanh Hoa, on February 28.
