Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man has urged the education sector to concentrate on developing a contingent of highly qualified lecturers and scientists capable of teaching core subjects in basic sciences, engineering, and key technologies.

He made the request while concluding a Q&A session on education and training affairs on June 20 as part of the 15th legislature’s ongoing 9th meeting.

Calling on the Government and the Minister of Education and Training to fully take in the opinions of lawmakers and vigorously implement the proposed solutions, Man asked for continued efforts to review and finetune policies, address institutional bottlenecks, boost power decentralisation, strengthen state management, rationally plan the university network to set up a modern governance system for higher education.

He stressed the need to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence and smart teaching equipment, innovate teaching and assessment methods, further improve the quality of formal education, and enhance digital transformation in providing information for students and their parents and in supporting more effective learning.

It is necessary to continue thoroughly grasping and seriously enforcing regulations to ensure a safe, healthy, and friendly educational environment, with school violence prevented, he said, calling for greater attention to building a positive school culture and substantively enforcing a code of conduct within educational institutions.

He also demanded close coordination among relevant agencies to address and remove inappropriate or violent online content targeting children and students on social media platforms.

In addition, the NA leader requested allocating adequate resources to ensure the quality of school meals, and taking measures to protect students' health, with priority given to equipping them with swimming skills and traffic safety knowledge. He also asked for strengthening inspection and supervision with the involvement of students’ parents in monitoring food safety and school hygiene at educational institutions.

Emphasising education and training are inherently challenging tasks, the top legislator noted that besides the Party and State's leadership and direction, greater coordination among ministries, sectors, and organisations, the active engagement of local authorities, support from the entire society is truly essential.

Earlier, during the Q&A session, Minister of Education and Traning Nguyen Kim Son had fielded questions raised by NA deputies. He straightforwardly acknowledged problems, made commitments to overhauling policies and legal rules, and outlined solutions for the time ahead.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Dꦉao Hong Lan had clarified issues related to food safety for students at all🌱 educational levels./.
