An Giang (VNA) -
Construction of the secondphase of the Sao Mai Solar Power Plant in Tinh Bien district, in the MekongDelta’s An Giang province, got underway on September 15, with a capacity of 106MWp and investment of over 3 trillion VND (129.5 million USD).

Invested by the Sao Mai Group and constructed bySterling Wilson - India’s leading group in renewable energy - the Sao Mai SolarPower Plant has been included in the adjusted Power Planning VII.

Covering 275 ha, the two-phase project has totalinvestment of nearly 6 trillion VND and a capacity of 210 MWp.

Truong Vinh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Sao MaiGroup, said the first phase was put into operation in July 2019 after fourmonths of construction and has contributed significantly to socio-economicdevelopment and job creation in the border district of Tinh Bien.

More than 300,000 solar panels will be installed in thesecond phase, which is scheduled to commercially produce electricity before theend of this year, he said.

In his remarks, Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Nguyen Thanh Binh highlighted An Giang’s potential in solar power andthe project’s significance for local socio-economic development.

He urged the investor to create favourable conditionsfor local residents to find stable jobs, contributing to ensuring socialwelfare in project areas./.
