Another Buddha statue sets new Asian record

The statue of Buddha attaining Nirvana at the Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda on Ta Cu Mountain, Ham Thuan Nam district, central Binh Thuan province has been recognised as “Asia’s longest lying Buddha statue on a mountain top” by the New Delhi-based Asian Book of Records.

Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, General Director of the Asian Book ofRecords, presented the award certificate to Thich Nu Ba La, head ofthe pagoda, in a ceremony on May 30.

Thereinforced concrete statue, which obtained the Vietnamese Record onJanuary 2, 2006, was built between 1963 and 1966 by architect TruongDinh Y. The reclining statue is 49 metres long, representing the 49years between Lord Buddha’s awakening and his attaining Nirvana.

On May 29, the Maitreya Buddha statue of Phat Lon Pagoda, An Haocommune, Tinh Bien district, southern An Giang province received acertificate recognising its entry into the Asian Book of Records as thelargest Maitreya Buddha statue seated on a mountain top in Asia.-VNA
