Ao Dai Festival in HCM City wraps up

HCMCity (VNA) – The sixth Ao Dai (traditional long dress) Festival in HoChi Minh City concluded with a closing ceremony on March 17.

Morethan 100,000 people engaged in 15 programmes and activities of the two-week festival,which honoured the everlasting values of the traditional costume.

Addressingthe ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyenaffirmed that the sixth festival was a success. During the event, nearly 5,000sets of ao dai and fabric to make ao dai were presented to female labourers inthe city, he added.

Besides,ao dai competitions attracted the participation of more than 2,600 Vietnameseand foreign contestants living in the city.

Tuyenvoiced his hope that the Ao Dai Festival will become a tourism draw for thesouthern economic hub.

The2019 Ao Dai Festival, organised by the municipal Department of Tourism and theVietnam Women’s Union – HCM City chapter, took place across various tourist spots of the city, such as Bui Vienand Nguyen Hue pedestrian zones, the city’s post office, the War RemnantsMuseum, the Ao Dai Museum and several public places.

The event also attracted 26 leading ao daidesigners from across the nation and featured a collection by a designer fromthe Republic of Korea.

Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie, who wasamong the top five of Miss Universe 2018, was involved with the festival.

Since 2014, the HCM City Ao Dai Festival hasbeen held annually in early March. The festival aims to honour Vietnam’straditional costume and promote HCM City’s tourism to domestic and foreignvisitors. -VNA
