APEC 2017: Vietnam calls for more support from OECD

Quang Nam (VNA) – Vietnamese Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung,Chairman of the APEC 2017 Finance Ministers’ Meeting (FMM),  has expected to receive further support fromthe Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

MeetingOECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria on the sidelines of the 2017 APEC FMM in centralQuang Nam province on October 20, Dung thanked OECD’s participationin activities within the framework of FMM hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry ofFinance.

Hespoke highly of OECD experts’ help to Vietnam in Long-term Investment inInfrastructure, and Base Erosion and ProfitShifting (BEPS), as well as OECD’s technical assistance to the country, especiallyin taxation.

Vietnamis striving to approach to OECD’s standards in improving market economy institutionsto fine-tune the economy’s competitiveness, he said, adding that OECD and theMinistry of Finance should join hands to carry out cooperation in prioritised fieldsfor mutual benefits.

Meanwhile, Gurria said that he is willing to assist Vietnam in preparingand chairing events within the framework of the APEC 2017 Finance Ministers’Process (FMP).

The OECD is working closely with the FMP to implement priorities in BEPS,finance for infrastructure and financial inclusion, he stressed, saying that the OECD has helpedthe Ministry of Finance to study and build international tax policies,particularly considering its participation in action programmes to prevent BEPSinitiated by the OECD.

The OECD will coordinate closely with the Ministry of Finance and providetechnical support and experts as well as share experience in prioritised topicsof Vietnam’s interests in the APEC 2017 FMP, he said.-VNA
