Outstanding students from ASEAN member nations joined those from New Zealand in an exchange organised by Education New Zealand (ENZ) in Wellington from August 11-12. The event, held on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between ASEAN and the country, offered an opportunity for participants to gain insights into the land, people, customs and cultural identities of each side.
Addressing the event, New Zealand Minister of Tertiary Education Skills and Employment Steven Joyce highlighted the importance of education cooperation in enhancing links among students worldwide and between foreign students and their New Zealand counterparts. He expressed his hope that students living and studying in his country would continue to maintain connections with local students, thus promoting relations among the countries in the future.
On behalf of ambassadors of ASEAN member states in New Zealand, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Viet Dung thanked the ENZ for arranging the exchange, appreciating the host country’s attention to boosting cooperation in education with ASEAN and Vietnam in particular. He suggested the New Zealand Government provide more scholarships under the Prime Minister's Scholarships for Asia ( PMSA ) programme for local students to study in the bloc’s member nations, helping them better understand ASEAN – an important region for their country.-VNA
