ASEAN senior officials convened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 25for preparatory meetings for the upcoming 26th ASEAN Summit.
The Vietnamese delegation to the event was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung.
At the function, the senior officials reviewed preparations forforeign ministers’ meetings, scheduled for April 26, as well as the 26thASEAN Summit.
They agreed on the working programme,the agenda, and documents to be submitted to the ASEAN CoordinatingCouncil for approval before they are ratified by leaders of the regionalcountries at the 26th ASEAN Summit.
The officialssubstantively exchanged views on major issues relating to the buildingof the ASEAN Community in 2015 and the Community’s post-2015 Vision.They also discussed ways to improve the bloc’s apparatus and operationefficiency, its relations with partners, and its centrality in theregion.
They consented to promote the grouping’scooperation and role in settling regional challenges, including inemploying measures to foster the effective implementation of theDeclaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and the formationof a code of conduct in the waters.
ASEAN ForeignMinisters’ meetings will be held on April 26 to finalise preparationsfor the 26th ASEAN Summit, which will take place on April 26-27.
Malaysia is the 2015 Chair of the Association of Southeast AsianNations (ASEAN), which was founded in August 1967 and consists of 10member countries.-VNA
