Jakarta (VNA) – The Vietnamese delegation to the upcoming 2018 Asian Games(ASIAD 18) arrived at Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on August14 to the warm welcome of Indonesian sport officials and volunteers.

The delegation is comprised of 523 members, including 81 coaches and 352athletes.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Pham Vinh Quang welcomed thedelegation at the airport and expressed his hope that the athletes wouldachieve outstanding results at the sport event.

The Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese community in Indonesia are readyto provide any necessary support for the delegation, he affirmed.

The Vietnamese delegation aims to snatch at least three gold medals, withat least one in the Olympic sports categories.

Prominent athletes include Olympic gold medalist sharpshooter Hoang XuanVinh, weightlifters Thach Kim Tuan and Trinh Van Vinh, runner Le Tu Chinh, longjumper Bui Thi Thu Thao, swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, gymnast Le Thanh Tung,taekwondo fighter Truong Thi Kim Tuyen, karate fighter Nguyen Thi Ngoan,cyclist Nguyen Thi That, and Wushu martial artist Duong Thuy Vi.

The ASIAD 2018 will be officially held in the two major Indonesian cities– Jakarta and Palembang – from August 18 to September 2, with the participationof athletes from 45 countries and territories.

At the previous ASIAD in 2014, Vietnam won one gold, 10 silver, and 25bronze medals, ranking 21st in the overall medal tally. –VNA
