Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam have drawn intoGroup D of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 together with strong rivals, including Japan, Iraq and Indonesia.
The drawing results were announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) onMay 11.
The 24 participating teams in the Asian Cup have beendivided into six groups competing in a round-robin format. The first-and second-place teams of each group, together with the four best-performingthird-placed teams will enter the round of 16.
Falling into a group with strong teams like Japan and Iraq forcesVietnam to consider the possibility of advancing to the next round as one of the best-performingthird-placed teams.
The tournament is set to be held in Qatar from January 12 toFebruary 10, 2024./.
Qatar became the champions of the 2019 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup, after beating Japan 3-1 in the final match which took place in the United Arab Emirates on February 1.
Vietnam will be in Pot 3, the same pot with the teams ranking 13th - 18th in Asia, for the draw for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, according to the latest regulations for the tournament draw announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.

The Vietnamese team will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, where they will train until July 14 before departing for Indonesia for the ASEAN U23 Championship 2025, which runs from July 15 to 29. Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22 in the group stage.
