Australia to launch more projects in Mekong delta

Australia will carry out several more projects involving security, defence, education and healthcare in the Mekong Delta, the country’s Consul General in Vietnam John McAnulty has said.

McAnultyhad a working session with Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee ofCan Tho, Truong Quang Hoai Nam, in the city on June 19.

Hesaid he is delighted to see the positive changes recorded by the deltaregion since the Australia-funded My Thuan Bridge was built 15 yearsago.

McAnulty expected that once the construction of CaoLanh Bridge, which is also financed by Australia, is completed, it willgenerate more economic benefits for local people.

In 2013,Australia equipped Can Tho Hospital with the most cutting-edge lasereye equipment, which can be easily brought to remote, rural areas toperform operations for poor people, the Australian official recalled,promising to send more modern equipment to the facility in the future.

Ineducation, he revealed that Australian students will take courses inCan Tho University in 2015 – the beginning year of a student exchangeprogramme between the two countries.-VNA
