Hanoi (VNA) - Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and his spouseleft Ho Chi Minh City on May 26, concluding a State visit to Vietnam from May23-26 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.
During his stay, the Governor-General had talks with President Tran Dai Quang, andmeetings with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Chairmanof Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong. He visited thelevel-2 field hospital No. 1, based at the Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi MinhCity.
At the meetings, both sides expressed their delight over the sound and effectivedevelopment of the bilateral ties. They agreed to continue with activities tomark the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic ties and raise twopeoples’ awareness of the Vietnam-Australia relations.
Regarding the orientation for the strategic partnership in the coming time,they reached consensus on consolidating political trust and strategic faiththrough enhancing delegation exchanges, improving efficiency of existingbilateral cooperative mechanisms while setting up new cooperative frameworkslike economic partnership, agricultural partnership, innovative partnership andmeeting at foreign ministerial level.
They laid stress on the efforts to deepen pillar cooperative sectors:security-defence, economy-trade, science-technology, education-training and developmentassistance, saying that they will serve as levers to boost collaboration inother potential fields.
Both sides will create favourable conditions for their airlines to operate moredirect flights between big cities and encourage citizens to involve in theVietnam-Australia Work and Holiday programme.
They affirmed to support each other at the regional and international forums,especially at the UN, ASEAN and mechanism led by ASEAN. They pledged tocoordinate stances regarding the East Sea issue and cooperate closely toimplement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-PacificPartnership (CPTPP).-VNA

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
