Binh Thuan faces high risk of forest fire

Over 100,000 ha out of 350,000 ha of forests in the south central coastal province of Binh Thuan are on the highest alert for fires as the peak of the dry season begins, according to the provincial Forestry Management Department.

BinhThuan (VNA) – Over 100,000 ha out of 350,000 ha of forests in thesouth central coastal province of Binh Thuan are on the highest alert for firesas the peak of the dry season begins, according to the provincial ForestryManagement Department.

Heat waves have put forests in Tuy Phong, Duc Linh, Tanh Linh and Ham Tan districtsat the extremely high fire level.

To deal with this situation, the provincial People’s Committee has asked departments,agencies and localities to seriously implement instructions on forestmanagement and protection, and forest fire prevention.

The local Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has also organisedtraining for more than 1,000 forest rangers, and put into use firefightingfacilities.

The heat waves are forecast to continue until September, causing challenges toforest protection, the Forestry Management Department said.

Therefore, forest rangers are working around the clock in key forests andstepped up communication work to raise public awareness of forest fire. -VNA

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
