Jakarta (VNA)♚ – A boat carrying 13 football team members capsized on June 25 due to rough waves while navigating the Nenek Strait off the coast of Batam city, Riau Islands province, Indonesia. The incident left eight people missing and five others injured.

Head of the Search and Relief Office Tanjungpinang Fazzli said that of the 13 victims, five survived and eight others are still being searched.
Chronology of the incident, he said, at around 16.00 WIB, the Grandma Island soccer team was about to go to compete for Setokok Island, Batam city. In the middle of the trip, the boat was hit by waves and overturned. Upon receiving the report, authorities immediately launched a search and rescue operation. However, unfavourable weather conditions forced rescue efforts to be temporarily suspended on the evening of June 25. The search is expected to resume in the morning of June 26. Rescue forces are closely monitoring weather conditions to restart search efforts as soon as possible./.
