Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Hanoi Book Festival willtake place on October 3-7, highlighting modern reading culture.

The festival will gather 200 booths from various publishinghouses and book companies where books are for sale at a discount. The domesticand international businesses will also organise seminars and presentations.

Through the seminars, panelists and audience members willdiscuss copyright protection in the development of technology, reading culture,connections between readers and publishing houses and co-operation betweendomestic and foreign book firms.  

On the occasion, exchanges between authors and readers willtake place.

An exhibition space will showcase digital reading devices,audio books, and techniques combining print books and applications on smartdevices.

This technique is becoming popular among readers because itcreates special effects on the pages. For example, a normal print book cancontain 3D and animated images if it is scanned with an app.

Other activities will be organised such as card games andportrait painting.

Hosted by the city People’s Committee, the annual book festivalwill take place at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, 19C Hoang Dieu Street, Hanoi.Entrance is free.-VNS/VNA

ꦛ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
