Hanoi (VNA)🐻 – The Institute for Research on DevelopmentCommunication (RED Communication) and Vietnam Business for Environment onAugust 18 held a conference entitled “Partnership between Businesses & Civil SocialOrganisations in Carbon Emission Reduction: Trends & Opportunities”.

The conference attracted domestic and international experts,businesses and organisations that share concerns over sustainable developmentand carbon emission reduction.   In opening the event, Tran Nhat Minh, Director of REDCommunication said that the conference is an activity within the framework ofthe "Win-Win for Vietnam" project co-sponsored by the Delegation ofthe European Union (EU) to Vietnam. The project is implemented from September 1,2020, to February 29, 2024, aiming to strengthen the capacity of organisationsand businesses in Vietnam in cooperation activities to create common valuestowards sustainable development. It also aims to build an effectivecooperation model between businesses and organisations, and raise awarenessamong stakeholders regarding sustainable development and multi-stakeholderpartnerships.

According to experts, major global challenges relating toclimate change, greenhouse gas emissions, extreme weather, and environmentalpollution require changes in production and consumption habits. In that context, Vietnam’s roadmap to green growth and sustainable developmentrequires the participation of the whole economy, particularly the businesscommunity.

The partnership between businesses and social organisationspositively contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting theenvironment, and improving the position of responsible businesses./.

𒁏 PM orders strengthened disaster preparedness ahead of storm season

♒ Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

𒐪 Wutip storm ravages central Vietnam, leaving trail of destruction

Wutip, the first storm in the East Sea so far this year, has wreaked havoc across central Vietnam, claiming lives, displacing residents, and causing widespread damage to houses, crops, and infrastructure, the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control reported as of 6:30 pm on June 13.

😼 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
