CaMau (VNA) - The southernmost province of Ca Mau currently has more than 300,000 ha ofaquaculture area, including over 158,000 ha of extensive shrimp farming and nearly 8,600 ha of intensive shrimp farming.

However, experts said that if local farmers fail to adoptstrict environmental protection measures in aquaculture, it will pollute water sources serving production activities.

The provincial People'sCommittee has issued regulations on renovating aquacultureponds and lagoons.
According to Le Van Su, Vice Chairman of the provincialPeople's Committee, the decision clearly defines the responsibilities of statemanagement agencies, organisations and aquaculture production businesses inenvironmental protection activities, thereby improving the productionefficiency combined with environmental protection.

The provincial People's Committee has tasked the Department of Agriculture andRural Development to lead and coordinate withrelevant departments, sectors and agencies to organise training courses on aquaculture techniques, raising legal awarenessof fishery, industry standards and other regulations.

Thedepartment is also responsible for directing specialised management andinspection forces of aquaculture production and forest protection to promptlydetect, prevent and deal with the acts of waste discharge and infringement offorestry resources./.

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing🤡 to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reus🐼e, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
