Ca Mau takes actions to respond to disasters

The southernmost province of Ca Mau’s committee for flood and storm control stepped up its actions to effectively respond to floods and storms in 2015, which are expected to be complicated.
The southernmost province of Ca Mau’s committee for flood and stormcontrol stepped up its actions to effectively respond to floods andstorms in 2015, which are expected to be complicated.

The committee divided the province into five geographical areas andassigned members to be in charge of tasks in each area, which includepreparing shelters and evacuation schemes and search and rescueoperations.

Around 18,635 households with a total of 85,399 people will be evacuated in case of serious storm.

During the remaining months of the year – the peak months of thestormy season – the province has asked districts to increase publicitycommunication campaigns to equip people with measures to respond todisasters and raise awareness, responsibility and preparedness of thecommunity.

According to the provincial People’sCommittee’s statistics, landslides and storms destroyed 70 houses, blewthe roofs off 177 others and sunk 10 fishing boats, causing 8 billionVND (366,000 USD) in damage to the province during the first six monthsof the year.

In June alone, landslides andstorms destroyed 21 houses and blew roofs off 35 houses, causing a lossof 1.3 billion VND (59,588 USD).-VNA

V✨ietnam ramps up plastic waste recycli♔ng, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
