Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia highly appreciatedASEAN tourism ministers for strengthening cooperation and experience exchangein response to COVID-19, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said in his opening remarks at the40th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF 2022) in Cambodia’s Sihanoukville on January 18.

The news site freshnewsasia.com quoted the Cambodian PM as saying that Cambodia is pleased to see the gradual reopening of countries in the region andthe world, and the solidarity and active cooperation among ASEAN people,partner countries and international institutions in responding to commonregional and global challenges.

In this spirit, Cambodia introduces the post-COVID-19 RecoveryPlan for ASEAN Tourism, and the Phnom Penh Declaration on a More Sustainable, Inclusiveand Resilient ASEAN Tourism, among others, the PM added.

Hun Sen said he appreciated international delegates’participation in the forum, although it took a long time to travel and doimmigration procedures due to the epidemic.

He said over the past two years, theCOVID-19 crisis has had a great socio-economic impact, especially on thetourism sector, causing the number of tourists to each country in the region todecrease sharply.

“Clearly, the tourism sector will face new trends in theneeds to develop digital socio-economy, tackle climate change and deepen theconsideration for global public health,” Hun Sen said as quoted by the site./.
