Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodia's CNC television channel has aired several programmes and commentaries related to Vietnam’s grand celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30.

During a special commentary featuring the World Press Week within the framework of the celebration, veteran journalist Khieu Kola, a senior editor at CNC who had just returned to Cambodia after participating in the event, recounted “first-time-in-life” scenes of millions of citizens and tourists cheering along Le Duan Boulevard and major streets in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, alongside a spectacular parade involving 13,000 participants, including troops from Cambodia, Laos, and China.

In the 16-minute programme, the speaker devoted considerable time to introducing the main, impressive contents he directly heard and noted from the celebration as well as the address by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam.

Khieu Kola quoted the Vietnamese Party chief as saying that the April 30, 1975 event is the most brilliant milestone in the history of Vietnam’s national construction and defence, marking the end of a resilient 30-year struggle for national independence, freedom, and reunification, putting an end to over a century of domination by old and new colonialism, and ushering the country into a new era of national independence and socialism.

In his address, the top leader of Vietnam also emphasised that after 50 years of national reunification and nearly 40 years of implementing the renewal process, the country has overcome numerous difficulties and challenges, and achieved great, historically significant accomplishments, contributing to establishing the country’s fortune, potential, position, and international prestige as seen today.

Prior to this, the sole Cambodian journalist attending the event published an extensive report on the event which he described as a “grand ceremony” and “historic milestone”. It included the parade, art performances, a bicycle race, and the release of balloons and doves symbolising the aspiration for peace.

In his article, the journalist also described the great victory of April 30, 1975 as a shared triumph of the Vietnamese and Cambodian people, as their armies and citizens supported and aided each other in their struggles to expel imperial and colonial invaders.

It also offered an ide🙈al opportunity for Vietnam to commemorate the contributions of international friends, including the Cambodian people, who shared hardships and stood shoulder to shoulder with the Vietnamese people in the past struggle to overt🙈hrow colonialism and imperialism./.
