Campaign promotes ‘green' products

The second annual Green Product Consumption campaign to raise environmental awareness has kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City .

Sponsored by Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Sai Gon) newspaper and theSai Gon Co-op Mart supermarket chain to mark the World Environment Day(June 5), the campaign began on Sunday with a bicycle parade by morethan 100 volunteers from the Cathedral to Tao Dan Park in District 3.

The campaign seeks to send a message that using products made bypolluting businesses is an indirect cause of poisoning of theenvironment.

The Khu pho Xanh (Green residential area)festival will be held in Districts Binh Thanh and 10 on May 29, June 4and June 11 to raise awareness of energy saving and keeping streetsclean and green.

Around 500 households will join this event.

It will also feature entertainment activities for children to mark the International Children's Day, which falls on June 1.

Co.op Mart Ly Thuong Kiet will host a contest titled Green Shopping Marathon on June 11.

It will involve customers shopping for green products with a certainamount of money and within a certain time. The one with the bestknowledge of green products will be deemed the winner.

But the main event will be a sale of eco-friendly and recycled products on June 4 at the Youth Cultural House.

Famous singers and goodwill ambassadors for the campaign like Hoang Bach, Kim Xuan, and Huynh Giao will take part in it.

This year the campaign has attracted around 1,000 people and 300volunteers from the University of Economics, University of ForeignTrade, and University of Social Sciences./.

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

𓆏 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
