Indonesia’s Jakarta Post recently published an article by Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Deng Xijun that highlighted progresses in ASEAN-China bilateral ties over the past three decades, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of dialogue relations between ASEAN and China.

Jakarta (VNA)𝕴 – Indonesia’sJakarta Post recently published an article by Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN DengXijun that highlighted progresses in ASEAN-China bilateral ties over the past three decades,on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of dialogue relations betweenASEAN and China.
The Chinese Ambassador noted that the 30 years of China-ASEAN dialogue relations, which were establishedin 1991, have been aglorious chapter highlighted by mutual friendship and cooperation. Evolvingfrom a dialogue partnership to a strategic partnership, China and ASEAN areabout to embrace a comprehensive strategic partnership that is already the mostdynamic, substantive and influential in the entire region.
He wrote that over the past threedecades, China and ASEAN have offered each other much-needed support in tryingtimes. The two have worked in concert to tide over one crisis after another, and sincethe COVID-19 pandemic struck, the two sides have done their utmost to renderassistance to each other.
🍸 According to him, two-way trade between China andASEAN grew from 8.36 billion USD in 1991 to 685.28 billion USD in 2020, and ittotaled 630.5 billion USD in the first three quarters of this year. Last year,China and ASEAN became each other’s largest trading partner for the first timein history. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), among othertrade arrangements, opens broad, new prospects for China-ASEAN economic andtrade engagement. In 2019, 65 million people made mutual visits andnearly 4,500 weekly flights traveled between China and ASEAN countries. Exchangemechanisms have continued to expand in the fields of education, culture,tourism, youth, research and journalism.
Aboutthe prospects of bilateral ties in the near future, the ambassador saidpriority could be given to jointly defeating thepandemic and boosting the regional economy.
He suggested fosteringnew areas of growth in pursuit of common development, nurturing closer people-to-people ties and safeguarding international justice through solidarity and coordination.
