City to host international track, field event

Hundreds of athletes from nine countries and territories in Asia will compete in the 21th Ho Chi Minh City International Track and Field Championships - Vietnam Open 2014, which kicks off on July 25.
Hundreds of athletes from nine countries and territories in Asia willcompete in the 21th Ho Chi Minh City International Track and FieldChampionships - Vietnam Open 2014, which kicks off on July 25.

Theannual competition, which has been held since 1993, attract athletesfrom Cambodia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, theRepublic of Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand, and host nation Vietnam.

Manybig, local names like Vu Thi Huong in the women's 100m and 200m events,Vu Van Huyen in the men's pole vault and decathlon and Nguyen Thi ThanhPhuc in the women's walk, will compete in the event.

Of international teams, the Republic of Korea and Philippines are sending the largest contingent.

There are also four international referees from Thailand and Singapore to officiate at the events.-VNA

♛ Vietnamese culture takes centre stage in Korean city

💙 Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
