Ha Tinh (VNA) – Construction commenced on December 30 on a temple commemorating the 10 female youth volunteers who died on duty at the Dong Loc T-junction during wartime in Can Loc district, cen🎃tral Ha Tinh pro🌠vince.

The temple, located in the Dong Loc T-junction relic site, will be built in a traditional style at a cost of some 43.7 billion VND (1.92 million USD) donated by individuals and private organisations.
It is also dedicated to all Vietnamese youth volunteers who fell down in the US war. During the war, Dong Loc junction was heavily bombarded by US forces as it was one of the most important sites on the legendary Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh trail, where trucks carrying soldiers, food, arms and munitions from the north to southern battlefields passed through.
Between 1965 and 1968, the US army dropped nearly 50,000 bombs and fired tens of thousands of missiles at this T-junction in the hope of cutting off the transport route to the southern front. In 1968, while levelling bomb craters, the ten girls were buried alive by bombs dropped by US forces. Their sacrifice remains immortal and becomes a symbol of the Vietnamese heroism. The historic site also witnessed the death of thousands of soldiers, volunteers, drivers and innocent civilians.-VNA
