Construction starts on Vam Cong Bridge

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung kick started the construction of Vam Cong Bridge, an important part of the Central Mekong Delta Region Connectivity project, at a ceremony on September 10.

Vam Cong Bridge, the second bridge spanning the Hau River, a tributary of the Mekong River, will connect Lap Vo districtof Dong Thap province with Thot Not district of Can Tho city.

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Dung said along with other projects suchas the Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong highway, the Can Tho and RachMieu Bridges, and the Central Mekong Delta Region Connectivityproject, Vam Cong Bridge will improve the road network in theregion, contributing to regional socio-economic development in MekongDelta provinces.

The 2.9km bridge will take 48 months to construct. It will have six lanes and a maximum speed of 80km/h.
It is estimated to cost 271 million USD, funded using OfficialDevelopment Assistance (ODA) from the Republic of Korea andcounterpart capital from the Vietnamese Government.

BesidesVam Cong Bridge, the Central Mekong Delta Region Connectivity projectalso includes the Cao Lanh Bridge, the Cao Lanh-Vam Cong road, a bypassaround Long Xuyen City, and the My An-Cao Lanh road.-VNA
