Hanoi (VNA) – Miss Vietnam 2020, a biennialnational beauty pageant, will not begin in May as scheduled due to newdevelopments of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The contest, with qualifying and final rounds,was initially scheduled to take place from May to August.

The organising board said it will announce thedate of Miss Vietnam 2020 later after considering the disease situation, addingthat it still receives entries and seeks potential contestants to stay activein the event organisation.

Meanwhile, the Standing Board of the PartyCommittee of Hai Phong city also cancelled the Flamboyant Flower Festival 2020and the gathering marking the 65th anniversary of the city’s Liberation Day(May 13) for fear of the epidemic.

The committee decided to suspend preparationsfor the presentation of gifts to local households on the occasion of theLiberation Day.

All the funding initially allocated for thoseactivities and other financial sources will be prioritised for COVID-19prevention and control in the city./.
