Da Nang, Hoi An to host Tet festivities

A month-long spring festival will be held at the coastal entertainment and hospitality complex CocoBay in Da Nang from February 12 to March 11, featuring Tet (Lunar New Year) customs, folk games and traditional cuisine.

- A month-long spring festival will be held at thecoastal entertainment and hospitality complex✃ CocoBay in Da Nang from February12 to March 11, featuring Tet (Lunar New Year) customs, folk games and traditionalcuisine.


The event organisers said the festival will present family-style Tetcelebrations from north, south and central Vietnam.

As traditional Lunar New Year customs seem to be fading with the country’srapid modernization, the event seeks to reinvigorate the celebration andattract new fans to the year’s biggest event.

The festival will include folk art performances, games, water puppet shows,calligraphy workshops and a spring market, as well as banh chung (stickyrice square cake) contests among families of different generations.

Stalls selling food and outdoor stages with musical performances and fun gameswill be open at the site day and night.

As scheduled, the city will present a 15-minute firework show on Lunar NewYear’s Eve (February 16) at Nguyen Van Troi Bridge and the administrativecentres of Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang districts at midnight.

In Hoi An, a series of events, including dancing, game shows, handicraftdisplays and brocade weaving performances will be held at thePrecious Heritage Art Gallery Museum, An Hoi Sculpture Park, Hoang Van Thu,Nguyen Thai Hoc and Anantara Hoi An Resort on Pham Hong Thai street.

Ethnic minority groups – Ca Dong, Cor, Co Tu and Boonoong – living indistricts of Tay Giang, Dong Giang, Nam Giang and Bac Tra My – will show offtheir performances and cultural activities in Hoi An through 2018.

The Quang Nam Ethnic Festival, which began on January 31, aims to honourthe cultural values of ethnic groups in the province and promoteculture to tourists visiting Hoi An.

Visitors wiꦺll be able to explore the unique culture of ethnic minꦛority groups,including folk dancing, singing and playing traditional musical instruments.-VNA
