Dak Nong official held for violating forest regulations

The People’s Procuracy in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong approved an arrest warrant against Chairman of the People’s Committee of Truong Xuan commune, Pham Quoc Thuy.

Dak Nong (VNA) - ThePeople’s Procuracy in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong approved anarrest warrant against Chairman of the People’s Committee of Truong Xuan commune,Pham Quoc Thuy.

Officialsof the People’s Committee of Dak Song district also confirmed to the VietnamNews Agency that Thuy was apprehended for the violation of regulations onexploitation and management of forest products.

Aninitial investigation found that at the end of 2016, Thuy allowed a company toillegally log more than 0.5ha of pine forest in a protection forest alongNational Highway 14. More than 1,000 pine trees with a total volume of about28cu.m had been cut.

Earlierthis year, some 2ha of protection pine forest along the Ho Chi Minh Highway inthe Truong Xuan commune had also been destroyed.

Thuywas accused of wrongdoings in managing and protecting the forest area and ofnot reporting the incident in time to the relevant agency.

Accordingto the People’s Committee of Dak Song district, chairman of the People’sCommittee of Nam N’Jang commune, Nguyen Huu Tam, was also dismissed from hispost last week after a large local forest area was damaged.-VNA
