Death, life sentences imposed on heroin traffickers

The People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City on August 23 sentenced two people to death and six to life in prison for involvement in the trafficking of 213 heroin bricks.

HCM City (VNA)ꦐ – The People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City on August 23 sentenced two people to death and six to life in prison for involvement in the trafficking of 213 heroin bricks.

Tran Tuan An, 29, from Ca Mau province and Le Nguyen Hoang Anh, 30, from HCM City received death sentences.
Life sentences were imposed on Cao Tri Trung (49), Truong Thi Ngoc Anh (50), Nguyen Thanh Thuy (22), Tran Thi Thuy Linh (34), Tang Thanh Linh (40), and Nguyen Thi Thao Hien (43). Another six defendants will spend between three and 20 years behind bars. The municipal People’s Procuracy had proposed six death penalties and three life imprisonments for the defendants.
According to the indictment, on the evening of June 14, 2013, police seized 15 heroin bricks (one brick equivalent to about 350 grams) from Le Nguyen Hoang Anh. Cao Tri Trung was caught four days later with ecstasy pills in his home and car. Tran Tuan An and several other accessories were arrested after that. The national-scale drug trafficking ring, set up by Trung, involved the trading of 213 heroin bricks from March to June 2013.-VNA
