Defence diplomacy helps enhance Vietnam’s role and position: conference
Defence diplomacy has contributed to deepening relations between Vietnam and other countries, while promoting Vietnam’s role and position in the international arena, heard an online conference in Hanoi on January 7.

Hanoi (VNA) – Defence diplomacy hascontributed to deepening relations between Vietnam and other countries, whilepromoting Vietnam’s role and position in the international arena, heard anonline conference in Hanoi on January 7.
The conference was held by the Ministry of NationalDefence to review Vietnam’s international integration and defence diplomacy in2021.
Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lt. Gen.Hoang Xuan Chien stressed the need to advance multilateral defence diplomacy,saying Vietnam should play a more active role in consolidating cooperationmechanisms within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and thoseled by the ten-member bloc.
The officer also suggested enhancing Vietnam’s engagementin UN peace-keeping operations, targeting more spheres and areas.
Agencies need to step up the communication work toraise public awareness of guidelines and viewpoints of the Party and the Stateregarding international integration and defence diplomacy, the friendshipbetween Vietnam and other countries, and national defence and security, hesaid./.

Bilateral and multilateral defence diplomacy has been carried out in a proactive, flexible, creative, effective, and substantive manner, continuing to serve as one of the pillars in Vietnam’s diplomacy and help raise the country’s role, stature, and prestige in the world.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
