Deputy PM inspects waste treatment in Hanoi

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has suggested that Hanoi researchtechnology to produce electricity from waste treatment.

The Deputy PM proposed the idea during a working session with Hanoiauthorities focusing on waste collection and treatment in the capitalcity on February 13.

He said the city should investmore in improving infrastructure for dumping grounds and seekinginvestments from different economic sectors in waste treatment.

Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Vu Hong Khanhreported that around 5,400 tonnes of waste are discharged each day inHanoi. Most of the waste is collected and treated using several methodssuch as burying and burning.

He stressed theimportance of the Nam Son waste treatment complex in Soc Son District,which began operation in 1999, adding that the city is investing inexpanding the facility. In particular, a system treating industrialwaste to produce electricity is slated to be put into operation at thecomplex in the third quarter of 2016, which is built with aid from theJapanese Government.

On the occasion, Deputy PMHai presented gifts to three poor households in Soc Son and workers ofthe Nam Son waste treatment complex.-VNA

Vietnam ramps up p🐎lastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
