Document on Ly dynasty descendants in RoK to be released

A document on “the Ly dynasty’s descendants in the Republic of Korea (RoK)” compiled by a resident in the northern province of Bac Ninh is expected to be released on the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

Thedocument provides information on the generations following the Lydynasty’s prince Ly Long Tuong, the seventh son of Emperor Ly Anh Tongand his consort Le My Nga, who fled to Koryo (near Pusan) to avoidbloodshed in 1226.

According to the chronicler Duy Khoat, Ly Xuong Can, the 26thdescendant of Ly Long Tuong and the 31st descendant of King Ly Thai To,paid floral tribute to his ancestors at the Do Temple in Bac Ninhprovince in 1994. Six months later, he joined the Vietnam-RoK cultureand friendship association’s delegation to burn incense sticks at thetemple.

In March 1995, 48 descendants of the Ly dynastic line in the RoKvisited Bac Ninh province for the Do temple festival of the 15th day ofthe third lunar month.

Ly Tuong Hiep, Head of the Ly family in the RoK, presented his familyrecords highlighting Ly Long Tuong’s significant contributions to theRoK in repelling Mongol invasions.

Ly Xuong Can and his family returned to Hanoi in 2000, said the document.

Also according to the document, President of the RoK’s Goldenbridgefinancial conglomerate Ly Tuong Tuan visited Vietnam to pay a floraltribute to his ancestors at the Do Temple in Bac Ninh province in 2003and opened a representative office in Hanoi in 2006. He was honoured asone of the biggest Asian donors in 2008. Now there are more than 4,000people of the Ly family in the RoK./.
