Hanoi (VNA) – A bronze drumhead dating back about 2,000 - 2,300years ago in the Dong Son civilisation has been discovered inthe southern province of Dong Thap.
Belonging to a drum of Type Heger I, the 7.6kg head measures 63cm in diameterand features images of a 12-point star and six birds flying counterclockwisealternated with lines and tangent circles, Thanh nien (Young people) newspaper cited the Dong Thap Museum.
The drumhead was found by a resident in Vinh Thoicommune of Lai Vung district when he was fishing on the Hau River in March thisyear. He handed over the item to the Dong Thap Museum in late April.
The DongSon Civilisation got its name from Dong Son village on the bank of the Ma Riverin the central province of Thanh Hoa, where a number of bronze drums werediscovered in 1924, marking the first evidence of this civilisation.
It existed between the 7th century BC and the first - second century AD.Its vestiges have been discovered in various localities, mainly in the basinsof the Red River in the north, the Ma River in Thanh Hoa, and the Ca River in nearbyNghe An province. They have also been excavated in central, Central Highlandsand southern regions, as well as some other Southeast Asian countries./.
Lying on the southern bank of Ma River in Ham Rong ward, Thanh Hoa city in the north central province of the same name, Dong Son village has been viewed as one of the ten most beautiful ancient villages in Vietnam.
Two national treasures – a wooden burial jar with a bronze drum as a lid and an animal figure dating back thousands years ago – are among about 1,300 artifacts and 500 scientific documents on display at the Binh Duong Museum in Thu Dau Mot City, the capital of southern Binh Duong province.
But Thap Pagoda, courtesy name Ninh Phuc Tu, is one of the most beautiful of its kind in the Red River Delta region and home to four groups of national treasures that have been kept almost intact.
