The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched an online training course to increase women’s capacity and confidence in elections in Hanoi on September 18. As part of a project on enhancing women’s leadership capacity for international integration, the “Ready for success” course is to provide women with fundamental knowledge on the political system in Vietnam, election process and the role of relevant agencies in candidate selection. Learners will also be equipped with necessary candidacy skills such as building and presenting a plan of action, meeting constituents, and working with the press.
The course also encourages the interaction between trainees and consultants via multiple choice questions, exercises, and forums. UNDP Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pratibha Mehta mentioned barriers facing female Vietnamese candidates such as time budget, geographical distance, and financial matter. She said the course is designed to remove these obstacles and enable women across Vietnam to join the programme in preparation for the 2016 National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils elections. Chief of the MoFA Office Duong Chi Dung expressed his belief that the course is accessible to learners in both urban and rural areas.
It is also flexible, he said, adding that e-learners could download the programme to their computers, tablets, and smart phones. Welcoming the MoFA-UNDP initiative, President of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa said the course will help women become potential leaders and politicians. The “Ready for Success” course draws the participation of leaders from the National Assembly, the VWU, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, together with domestic and foreign experts in policy research and women’s political participation.
The free-of-charge course entails eight modules which can be downloaded for usage at any time without internet. Learners who complete the course will receive certificates of the UNDP and the VWU.-VNA
