Eight-year imprisonment sentence upheld for woman for anti-State activities

The High-level People's Court in Da Nang on September 29 upheld an eight-year imprisonment sentence on a woman from Phu Yen province on the charge of “making, storing, distributing and disseminating information, documents and items aimed at sabotaging the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam” under Clause 1 of Article 117 in the 2015 Penal Code.

Phu Yen (VNA) - The High-level People's Courtin Da Nang on September 29 upheld an eight-year imprisonment sentence on awoman from Phu Yen province on the charge of “making, storing, distributing anddisseminating information, documents and items aimed at sabotaging the State ofthe Socialist Republic of Vietnam” under Clause 1 of Article 117 in the 2015Penal Code.

Tran Thi Tuyet Dieu, born 1988, was sentenced to eight yearsin prison on the charge in the first-instance trial by the People's Court ofPhu Yen province.

At the appeal trial held publicly at the Phu Yen provincialcourt, the panel rejected all contents of Dieu's appeal.

According to the indictment of the Phu Yen People'sProcuracy, from July 2011 to December 2017, Dieu wrote and stored 25 articlesand 9 video clips with anti-state content.

She then posted those articles and video clips on heraccounts on Facebook and Youtube.

Earlier from July 2011  to December 2017, Dieu also posted manyarticles on social media distorting the activities of law enforcement agenciesand expressing support for Nguyen Viet Dung, who was sentenced to six years injail for spreading anti-State propaganda./.
