Environmental project marks Vietnam-Canada cooperation

The statement was made by Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam DeborahChatsis at a conference held in Hanoi on June 13 to assess theoutcomes of the VPEG project.

Chatsis stressed thatCanada and Vietnam have developed environmental cooperation since1995. At that time, Canada was one of the first donors to Vietnamthrough the Vietnam-Canada Environment Project, which aims to supportthe implementation of environmental protection laws, and the enhancementof Vietnam’s environmental management capacity.

The VPEG project has been implemented in Hanoi, Da Nang, Binh Duong,Bac Ninh, Long An, Hai Duong, Quang Ngai and Soc Trang from 2008-2013under an agreement of the two Governments.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) Bui CachTuyen said the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) providedfinancially and technically support to the project worth a total of 15million CAD.-VNA

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor s⛎eawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Wutip storm ravages centra⛄l Vietnam, leaving trail of destruction

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recyclin⛄g, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
