Environmental, sea, island protection campaign to launch in Bac Lieu

Hanoi (VNA)
– The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, incoordination with the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu, will launch a sea andisland week, as well as an action month for environmental protection on June 1.

Thesea and island week, to last from June 1-8, and the action month for theenvironment, to take place throughout June, are in response to World Oceans Day(June 8) and World Environment Day (June 5), according to head of the VietnamAdministration of Seas and Islands Ta Dinh Thi.

Underthe campaigns, the dissemination of the Party and State’s guidelines, policies,and laws on the protection of the environment and national sea and islands, aswell as relevant messages of the United Nations, will be stepped up, helping toraise public awareness of this matter.

Accordingly,an array of community-based programmes and activities will be held in Bac Lieu onMay 31, including mangrove forestation work, inauguration of a playground forchildren from families relocated from protective forests, a conference onVietnam’s marine economic development strategy by 2030 with a vision towards2045, and a painting exhibition featuring environmental protection and economicdevelopment in the Mekong Delta.

Thelaunching ceremony is scheduled to be organised at Bac Lieu city’s Square onJune 1, during which organisations and individuals who have made outstandingcontributions in this regard will be honoured, and the next ocean ambassadorwill be announced.

The same day, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for a wind power plantin Vinh Hau A commune, Hoa Binh district, Bac Lieu city; a conference oninvestment in Vietnamese maritime brand names; and other sidelines events. –VNA

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reus♊e, 🍰treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
