Hanoi (VNA) ✱- The International Tattoo Convention, where tattoo techniques and culture are discussed, will be held in Hanoi for the first time.

The programme, which takes place on June 23 and 24, offers hundreds of domestic and international tattoo artists the chance to exchange experiences and ideas on the art of tattooing. Renowned head judge Diau An Master, with 35 years of experience in tattoo art, will lead tens of artists from mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Germany and Poland in showcasing beautiful, impressive tattoos.
Artists will draw their creations on thighs, backs, arms and other parts of the body to impress judges and win awards across 14 categories, ranging from colour and cover-up tattoos to the most hyper-realistic tattoo and the best body art displays. The special award "Queen of Tattoo," worth 50 million VND (2,240 USD), will be given to a female artist with the most impressive tattoo based on votes from the judge and viewers. More than a hundred kiosks providing tattoo services will be present at the event, creating a new experience for viewers.
Le Ngoc Anh, head of the organisation board, said the organisers and tattoo artists wished to bring viewers the most accurate perspective of tattoo art, which is still new to Vietnam. People now have a fairer assessment of tattoo art, and young people now freely express themselves through tattoos on their bodies. "Thus, we want to provide knowledge about safe modern techniques to those being introduced to this kind of art," he added. Nguyen Duc Tuan, a Hanoi tattoo artist, said he hoped the programme would contribute to gradually reducing society’s judgement and criticism of tattoo wearers. The nature of tattoos has changed to a positive image, and the job of a tattoo artist offers a stable income for young people.-VNA
