A solid waste treatment plant in Ly Son island district, the central province of Quang Ngai has experienced a trial run after five months of construction.
A solid waste treatment plant in Ly Son island district, the centralprovince of Quang Ngai has experienced a trial run after five monthsof construction.

With an average daily capacity of 15.5 tonnes,the plant, the first of its kind in the island district, can handle aremarkable volume of daily and production waste discharged from locals,said Le Hoai An, head of the district’s Natural Resources andEnvironment Division.

The plant was built on an area of 2 hectares in An Hai and An Vinh communes at a cost of 30.7 billion VND (1.5 million USD).

Onceput into official operation, the plant will contribute to improving theliving environment for local residents and marine creatures, said An.-VNA

Vietnam ramps up plastic wꦿaste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
